I would like to eliminate(bypass) the volume pot on my DAC.
I'm currently leaving volume turned all the way up on the DAC to achieve "normal" listening level. The pot is Alps Dual 100k (100KAX2). From what I gather I need to insert a 100K resistor somewhere between the signal and the RCAs but I'm not sure where/how this needs to be done. Could some kind soul please walk me through this procedure. Thank you.

Eliminating the pot, or turning it full up (minimum resistance) to achieve normal listening level is the same as bypassing the pot all together (although the signal still goes through the wiper arm of the pot).
What you could try is the shunt modification. Pins 2 & 3 linked together, then to ground. Pin 1 connected directly to the output (to the amp). The input (from the source) is also connected to pin 1, with the resistor in series (between the input and pin 1). ShuntMod2.gif Last edited by zebra100; 6th January 2011 at 11:02 PM. |

Thanks for your reply.
Ideally what I would like to do is send the signal straight from the board(white connector in picture) to the RCAs which are about an inch away.. Thus keeping the signal path as short and sweet as possible. What I'm not clear on is - where exactly do the resistors go? Pos, neg, both, paralell... |
