my apologies, I mistakenly mixed your post up with presapian's wordsWhat??? Where do you see any russian capacitor in my DAC?
large film/foil/oil caps are effectively useless for HF decoupling in digital circuits, can even be detrimental, as they act as dipole antennas with long leads. I blame lampizator for this sort of practice.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
PCM61P DAC chips feeding 820 ohm I/V resistors and then a 5963 cathode follower buffer stage.

the last tower type 1543 i will make. huge rating caps make everything sound very ambient.
Under the hood
The dac is based on the flawed Analogmetric design. Gone is the reclocker. Corrected spdif input. Using a CS8412 replacement board. Output is Sony 2's complement, MSB first to a NPC SM5814 digital filter. I2S to dac chip a TDA1541A S1 Crown. I/V is OPA627AU, 7th order GIC Bessel filter with AD8065 output buffer. Rocking sound. Will post second build the Mark II, soon. Dave 😀

Later picture.... Under the hood

Forgot
The digital side is the same as the Mark II, I just linked to. GIC filter is in the box due to high impedance.... 😱

1541 A Dacasarus Rex MK II
Well... Just finished the Mark II. Same digital front end as the first one. DIR9001 replaces CS8412. 2's complement, MSB first, right justified data to NPC SM5814 digital filter. I2S to TDA1541A S1 Crown dac. I/V is Pedja Rogic DDNF on a DVB-Projekt circuit board. No feed back.... Edcor 600/600 passive filter. Outstanding clarity my best DAC to date. 😀

Interesting DAC
How does it sound?Bridged/parallel TDA1387s with transistor enhanced TL431 shunt supplies.
Its SQ is mainly determined by the following I/V stage. When that's done with a passive filter and then an AFA, its a very satisfying sound indeed with superb dynamics, natural instrumental timbre and an almost holographic soundstage.
I/V
My experience as well. The I/V seems more important then the DAC itself. None of my DAC's sound like the accepted SQ for that particular DAC in it's usual manufacturing implementation. My next project maybe based on the PCM1704.... 😉Its SQ is mainly determined by the following I/V stage. Not bad looking ....
Hi, In the end it is all about the sound. If you can troubleshoot it and mod it I see no issues. Enjoy! 😀Just to show something bad-looking.
DIR9001 + 2 x PCM1794A + adjusted Pass D1 output.
Best DAC ever.
Tried I2S from a TE7022L USB Module, but S/PDIF through DIR9001 is better.

For USB to i2S conversion, maybe you should try CM6631? I think it is one of the best.
Sometimes when I see all those pictures I get the slight impression it was about looks 😀Hi, In the end it is all about the sound.

Yes I thought about CM6631, but I'm not sure whether FreeBSD will work with it. For Windows you need a driver as fas as I know.
