I have been playing with the DCX for quite a while now. While the ability to do 48dB slope brought so much to my system, I feel it is taking away transparency and musicality. I think I hear some noise and somewhat digi-sound in the high frequency. After extensive research, I find some mod offerings from Selectronics and LinearAudio. They look promising but are quite pricey. Any direct experience/comments would be greatly appreciated. Will the mods bring the DCX to the ultimate level a 48dB slope crossover can offer?
I am using the DCX between my preamp and amplifier for both digital and analog playback. System is all single-ended. Many thanks! |

Well, the best thing to do is avoid the A-D conversion and only use a digital input. The DCX is expecting pro levels on the input and you are providing it consumer levels and further attenuating them with the pre-amp. This should be avoided.
In my view, the real weak link in the Behringer is the analog output section. You have a number of choices, some you have already identified. Either replace the output with decent op-amps and caps or eliminate it altogether and simply use a transformer (with an RC, anti-aliasing filter) directly after the DAC output. There are many, many threads on this topic that you should search these. Please keep in mind what the biggest weak link in the system is and focus on that. good luck. |

The Linear Audio-kit is expensive, but really transforms the DCX.
