ackoDAC based on ES9018

Acko: just curious... it looks like you have two sites now... ackolabs.com and the google based site. There are two different prices for the AKD12 MKII. So which one is the right price?

Do you offer the option to sell the board with just the ES9018 soldered? If so, please PM a price. I may not be ready yet, but want to get an idea what I'm in for.

Ackolabs site handles commercial customers and prices set accordingly to cater for specialised services.
Use the Google site for DIY. Prices are usually discounted and services for DIY community.

AKD12 MKII is currently not available as a board or with just chip loaded.
Support information for DIY build has not been created.
Rogers boards are pretty expensive but those who have used it have given very favourable feedback, and also the on-board UFL headers for optimal performance.

Maybe you would like this on cheaper FR4 board option. Again depending on interest or qty orders to cover costs ...

Im new in the acko owner familly, and besides sounding FANTASTIC, the dac is controled by the AKC-12.

I think I have seen a display ad on on the site, but cant find it right now. Is there a ' simpler than HIFIDuino ' display solution somewhere on the net ? Could be cool to just see the actual vol on a display, so the kids dont start the DAC at full throttle ( connected directly to the power amp of course...)

But it's one of a kind dac ( Mine with the NTD1 as I/V )

Actually there was a pure Teflon version built for an OEM sometime back and a few samples from that batch made it to early adopters here. Difficult to source now and even more expensive. No plans to offer for DIY. Rogers is quite comparable and readily available from most suppliers.

Actually, there was a plan for a touch display that will be connected to the AKC-12 which apart from controlling the DAC can also act as a server for connected systems. see here ->

So the display is an intelligent client that can pull off status data for display and also be used to command the DAC operation, Vol, set registers, etc. It uses the comms API as shown in the manual, so anyone familiar with serial comms can build a smart display - even PC can be used

For safety reasons the AKC12 remains as the main controller and can override remote clients if locally commanded e.g. Vol knob or switches adjusted. So, yes a display would be nice. Haven't rolled out one yet but functions are ready. Compatible display hardware is available from 4D Systems. Stunning features for just about any imagination but you will need to program it accordingly. I have one already:4D Systems | uOLED-32028-P1T (still in the box though :D)

The other reason, possibly, noise from local display sharing the same enclosure as the DAC?

Then there is this plan to use mobile devices as remote controller/display. Again with the AKC12, a wi-fi gateway can be added (AKW802) and the same comms API can be routed for remote clients. Anyone familiar with creating mobile Apps? Happy to guide further :)

Well, until then get a large Vol knob on the pot for the rest of the family :)

I wouldn't mind it at all... How many boards need to be produced to make it worth it? 10?

Give me a while to consider this, there could be more options that I would like to propose ...

Acko: what regulators are you using for the boards now? I know before you had some regulators that fit under the boards - but i take it now you use the PSU Carrier boards with separate super-regulators?

I will propose two options later, one a direct cut of the MKII board with all regulator mounting positions on-board as shown on my webpages. The other, a new design with no on-board regulators but provisions for mounting 3- term type similar to the ADC module. There will be 8 of these around the board, all separate to each of the power pins of the DAC chip. In this way, the board is less crowded and layout more optimized and gives you more options to select your choice of power supplies. Also, there will be less DIY work to solder tiny smd parts :)
Anyway, I will need the numbers to proceed any further.

Why i ask is because i'm probably interested in the FR4 board - but which of designs will that one be? I'm thinking about how much extra cost there will be needed to add, to have one finished dac. (regulators + transformers and components).
 
I think I'd prefer the MKII because it looks like it gives options for off board regs. Without a BOM there is no way to tell what is more expensive. I'd think $150 plus parts is cheaper than the normal retail price of the MKII. You still need a controller board, so add that to the price.
 
3-4 channel DAC build

AckoDac

I would like to use your modules to build a 3 or 4 channel DAC in order to biamp a sub and satalite speaker setup via JPLAY. I would like one USB and one S/Pdif inputs. I would also like a volume control to allow the unit to act as a Preamp. I would also like the volume to be via remote. Sound Quality is my main concern. What items would you recommend I purchase in order to put this together.
