I am looking for a DAC kit or PCB or even a full fledge DAC for US$300. I tried the Monica from DIY paradise, so I guess you can say I quite like the NOS sound. But I've heard that upsampling to 96Khz pretty much does the same thing.
I am open to suggestions. I tried searching the forum but it is too confusing, too many options. So a simplfied recommendation of what is available out there and my options are would be good....

This one on eBay is right in your price bracket. It looks pretty good, and is NOS from stock. One caution though, it doesn't seem to include an output stage, so you'd have to build your own, or buy one as a kitset.
I could swear I there was a thread recently were someone had attached a tube output stage to this exact kit, but I can't find it now.
