I'm having thought about building a firewire soundcard, with no outputs (I have a decent soundcard for that), and only ADAT inputs.
From what I gather I'd something that can process the ADAT signals, like this, some kind of DSP, maybe like this, some chip to handle some things of the firewire communication (haven't looked that up yet), and then (maybe) a heavy microcontroller or an FPGA to bring some things together. Then I should write an ASIO and/or WaveRT driver to make my PC understand the audio streams coming through Firewire, and that should be it. Now I know it's gonna be a big project and that I might have skipped over some of the details, but I think it should be possible. Is there anyone who can recommend me things or tell me to absolutely not try this? |

Nobody's ever tried something like this? Surely I can't be the only one interested in such an option...
