as i understand its better to use i2s than spdif where possible.
(given that the cdp uses i2s, im not shure about that since its a sony cdp.)
that way you dont convert the signal from i2s to spdif and then back again.
but i never done any side by side compare, not shure i would hear any difference.

Oh yes you would indeed hear a difference. I2S is much better as you can control jitter much better.
I was consultant engineer in a High End company by the time when they wanted an upgrade of their top CD player and seperates. We changed from spdif to I2S - big difference!
