Default Wolfson WM8741

Im thinking of buying the Cambridge audio 740C cd player , it comes with the wolfson WM8740. Is it possible to replace it with the new WM8741 ? Wolfson says the WM8741 is pin compatible with the WM8740. Thanks .

Probably not a good idea. The DacMagic seems to be using the DAC without the filters because it has a DSP doing all the upsampling and filtering. Thus if you replace the DAC, it will probably be using the DAC portion only bypassing all the filtering.

But if you are good in DIY, get the kit from twistedpearaudio and get an Arduino to access all the functions of the WM8741

Sorry, confused the 740C with DacMagic... But maybe using the same approach with a DSP chip

Elsewhere it has bee discussed that the 8742 is a cost-reduced version (slightly lower performance) than the 8741. Comparing the data sheets indicates a 3db difference in SNR
