Simple RBUS/TDIF/ADAT ADC/DAC

Hello

I would like to build a simple ADAT or RBus or TDif 8 Channel ADC/DAC. It needs to operate at 24bit 48kHz or above. I need 8 channels of i/o, but they can just be at line level.

I believe that RBus and TDif are the same protocol just under different wirings. Is it also true that the pins ie 1/2 in carries the signal over SPDIF? In which case is there a very simple SPDIF ADC/DAC for 2 channels that I could have 8 copies of?

Whilst I've got quite a bit of electronics knowedge, I've never done anything like this before.

There are soundcards like Lynx aes16 , or Rme AES ...
Those basically contain 8 pieces of Spdif RX/Tx , hence 16in 16out.
The challenge is to feed back some good external local clock that makes low jitter conversion possible, and the host (PC ) is slaved to that.

Thanks for a quick reply. I already have the interfacing between the PC and the TDIF (The V-Fire that I have). What I need is something to convert from line level inputs to the TDIF inputs and outputs on the V-Fire.

hm , interesting , can you open it for a quick look under the hood ?

-Maybe its a TC Dice2 chipset you can buy for cheap...

I see original MSRP was 400 usd and it comes from 2006. Then its safe to presume its a DICE2 chipset. That is quite straight forward cause they use plain i2s / aes ebu pins then. You have documentation for the roland connector ?

I don't have any documentation for the R-Bus connector, but I know that it is simmilar to TDIF (people have built simple adapters for the two before...)

Did you ever realise these converters? I am the one who posted all the original documentation... So I wonder.
