First off what a great thread, read it all and the Lampizator site also, took about day and half but got through it with just a mild headache.
My question are:
1, Has anyone tried using the Lampizator tube mod or similar as apposed to the Output transformer with this DAC that can compare both sonically ? and also ease of implementation for us not so Electronically minded.
Thanks very much in advanced.
I tried using a tube output stage similar to lampizator. But transformers sounds way better than tubes when you use tube amplifier. And when you use solid state amplifier, transformers may sound even horrible. I'm going to add a cathode followers after transformers and test it with solid state amp. To be honest, I'm soldering it right now

I tried lampizator, AiKido balanced, Fet, balanced fet, Burson op amps. For me, nothing beats transformers in all systems transistor or tube based.

I modified 7 of these dacs with transformers . Before modding them with transformers, peoples used them with different circuits I made. When modded with transformers, everybody asked me to transform their dacs with transformers. They are really happy in all their setups.

McGyver, your finding should be interesting as I would imagine some of us on this thread just use solid state amps and AV receivers, I myself am using a AV receiver and though content with the Sound of the Marantz its probably more electronically engineered for 7.1 sources i.e movies, hence the external DAC solution.
please post your results after you perform your listening tests.

Thanks

Thanks Lagarem looks like that's the way to go then, now I just need to find some transformers that are suitable.

I apologies if my reply s are a bit out of whack with all your applies but I'm still being moderated on as I'm new to the forum.

question for Samoloko.
Did you contact the Edcor company about those Transformers, and if so have they gave you any indication that they will ship outside the U.S.

Thanks

Default Regarding audio Transformers

Couple more questions regarding Audio Transformers.
1, Should we be trying to source "Shielded" transformers ? or for this application it does not matter.
2, I'm a bit confused as a general rule is that you should not use a transformer to increase signal level by more than 25 dB, what does this mean exactly based on this project as 25dB is not very loud and how will this effect volume levels on AMP/receiver, its probably a dumb question but I had to ask

Unshielded transformers are obviously working fine in this application. Shielding is essential for low level signals.

When using 1:1 transformers there is no gain, just a very little bit of loss, depending on the transformers quality.

An increase of the signal level of 25dB means using a 1:18 transformer.
