examining this dac designs I see
cs4397 and cs8416 - two pcbs - one ne5532 cs4397 and cs8416 - one pcb - two ne5532 cs4398 and dir9001 - one pcb - two ne5532 which of the 3 is best I think first - It Is claimed to do 192 kHz and you can do mods - change tha caps the ones with dir 9001 got lesser jitter but no 192 kHz what are your choices |

Actually, I think that the best is to buy the one with the upsampling board and USB and adding a digital transformer at the spdif input.
If you don't like upsampling, you can use it without the upsampling board |

I agree completely, I didn't think I would like upsampling, but I was wrong. YMMV

I didn't get the 600:600
I got the 10k:15k for experimental purposes. I haven't had time to wire it in. I will try tonight. I know it will take several days to break in so I'll report sometime next week. |

Sorry for the silly questions.
In legarem's diagram in post #418, the black wire is connected to the ground connection. Is that the analog ground of the DAC? http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/attac...amp=1241223954 Also, on the same diagram, is the type of capacitor across the transformer primaries important (0.0047uF)? |

Those aren't silly questions.
The caps should be good quality polypropylene film. The grounding issue is best answered by legarem, I wouldn't think it wise to defeat the isolation provided by the transformer by connecting one side of the secondary to the audio ground. Bill |
