Hi guys,
Were do you buy your TDA1541, 1543, 1545 DAC chips from? I have checked many online electronics sellers and can't find any sources for them. Thanks. |

Stock is depleted now at almost all the widely known online shops. These parts have been out of production for years.
You have to check the smaller, not so well-known shops worldwide or diy audio boutiques. There are still quite a lot of sources. But once a cheap source is mentioned here, it runs dry soon. Check out the trading post in this forum and you will find lots of offers from fellow forum members. How many would you need? Depending on price, I might be willing to let some go

Thanks for the responses and offers.
Is there anything similar that is more widely available and that is still in production today? |

Unfortunately not. There's no market today for a 16 bit (!) audio DAC chip with specs that "bad".
In my opinion, chips like the old Analog Devices AD1862 and Burr Brown's PCM63 were the last true "high end" DACs. Of course, they are long out of production. Later chips introduced "dirty tricks" to get better specs regardless of sound quality - like the PCM1704, which is now about ten years old and being phased out as well. |

Digikey in Canada still has the PCM63 listed on its site. It says minimum buy is 12 and that it is a Non-Stock item. Its a 20 bit DAC.

I've had pretty good luck with buying used CD players from Goodwill. At $4-6 each, out of 5, I've ended up with 2 TDA1541s, and 1 TDA1541A, plus a bunch of other "spare parts" ...

I will have to remember that Daniel. Do you remember any of the models of cd players you got those out of?
