Default How to refurbish the rusted metal cover case from scratch?

Hello, I have got a philips CD player recently. All functions work fine except the top metal cover turn to rust as pictures shown. The appearance is not really good and I would like to refurbish it by spraying black paint . Does anyone has experience on how to refurbish it from scratch like this case? Thanks!

I would take it to a car body spray shop for an estimate and if expensive firstly wire brush the metalwork, use fine wet and dry 400 grit paper to clean it up and then either have it sprayed at a car body shop or spray it with Hammerite Smooth black or a colour of your choice.
Hammerite dries smooth and gives a good finish.

Give it a good rubbing down with 160 grade paper and then Hammerite it.

You are not after a car showroom finish, just a good matt finish.
