See through material for component top.

I have a jfet phono stage housed in a walnut Hammond case. The removable top is 3/16" anodized aluminum. It's got several led series designed for voltage drops and looks very cool when turned on and the top is off. I'm thinking about using a see through panel instead of the aluminum one. The aluminum gets warm, maybe 100/120 F. What material would work best: window glass, tempered glass, plexiglass , etc.

Smoked perspex with a few small ventilation holes drilled in it would be my choice or clear if you want all the interior and not just the led's visible.

Makes it sound like that top plate is part of the overall heatsinking...?

Perhaps not a good idea to partially unscreen a phono stage

There are some pics here on DIY: analog source, simplistic njfet riaa, #13383.

The Hammond box was a personal choice, not part of the design, not a heat sink. But a little more air inside the case wouldn't hurt.
