Hallo all, I have never soldered double sided boards with vias through hole. A tip or two to help me make no rubbish or wrong soldering decisions will be very much appreciated. Does a solder spot have to be soldered both sides or does the via conducts current good enough ??:eek: Just thought about when there has to be some desoldering.
Thanks for your inputs.

In most cases on a good quality pcb, soldering only one side is enough.
If the trace carries higher currents, then soldering both sides may be a good idea.
The current carrying capacity of a via is limited compared to that of a wide trace.

Download Saturn PCB toolkit this will give you all the figures for vias and traces... you may be surprised. Always use multiple via's for high current, especially for DIY boards, and specify 0.025mm minimum plating.

Solder from one side only and ensure the solder goes all the way up the barrel of the hole the lead is in. Soldering from both sides can create a void in the barrel, this is a week point and can cause barrel cracking in the via leading to problematic faults that can be intermittent.
