Question LP volume control + source switch

I want to incorporate a record player to my Buffalo III based system.

I have this idea of creating a pre-amp that handles source switching and volume control.

Goal:

Record Player -> RIAA and/or volume control -> Pre-amp -> IcePower amps
Computer -> Buffalo III ------------------------------->

1. Is it possible to digitally control the LP volume? The attenuated balanced signal would then be fed into the IcePower amps.

2. How could i implement the source switch? I would like to be able to control it digitally.

Any advice appreciated
