Princeton 5F2A Scratch Build

Hey guys,

I am preparing to construct the Princeton 5F2A from scratch. I have dimensions for the Cabinet, and the Weber Replica Chassis.

I was hoping I could get a little input on my order of construction.

My plan is, first, to get the chassis cut and bent out of sheet steel 13.75" x 5.75"

Next, I will mount the PT and OT and tube sockets. And once that is complete I will begin wiring the guts together.

The cabinet presents no problem to me, but the chassis is a different story. I do have access to a machine shop, but I am feeling a little overwhelmed by it. Namely because I wont pay 90 dollars to get a 1' x 4' sheet of 18GA Stainless when I can by a chassis premade that will come close to my requirements for around 80$

Direction on any aspect of this build would be greatly appreciated.

This is not my first amp and I am not new to electronics nor HV, but I am still a novice!
I will update this thread with my part specs and ideas for the cabinet soon. I will document the entire build here if things go well.

Hard part is done - all you have to do is make openings.
Lots of choices, some with a nice painted finish on steel.

You hinted at it already, but I'd have to question bending a chassis from scratch. I mean OK if you want a project and the satisfaction of doing it all yourself, but commercial chassis can be had from several sources, and they come already neatly constructed, appropriate cleanly made holes already in place, and in many cases the chassis is already plated and labeled.

I am currently wondering whether it is necessary to obtain a steel chassis at all. I am thinking I could use a bit thicker sheet of aluminum bent into an L and mounted from the ceiling of the cabinet.

Any thoughts on this?
