I have a basic knowledge of electronics. I studied Physics upto when I was 18, so my maths is okay.

I do know:
- what a diode does
- how to use a very basic 555/6 IC
- how to read circuit diagrams
- how to use a soldering iron

I don't know:
- what an op amp does
- how to use an oscilloscope
- how to test components when in situ
- what inductance or impedance really mean

Could someone please recommend a decent beginners book?

I would like to fix amplifiers, work with balanced audio, and examine digital circuitary within a microprocessor controlled amplifier.

Thanks!
