I'm in the finishing stages of building my own speakers. Since these are mini monitors I'd also like to build some stands of about 70 cm in height.

What I was wondering about is what kind of placement of speakers on stands would be best for sound quality.
Should the speakers just sit on top of the stands by their own weight or should they be fixed hard to the stand and more or less become one with them?

I have always found a T-Nut mounted on the inside and a good sized bolt through the stand and into the speaker works well, and it will never come loose.

you've never had an internal T-nut come loose?

rather than drill a through hole, I'd recommend blind hole threaded inserts - such as:
