Hey all,
Do you guys have any recommendations for strong magnets to use on a removable baffle? I see some other speakers that use em... I'd like to do the same kinda thing. Basically, what strength would I need and wheres a good place to get em. Thanks!

Ebay is a fine place to buy them. If you arn't in a hurry I may have a few I can let you have but I have misplaced them. Now having said that it realy might be about as good to try using velcro but that doesn't sound hi teck in a speaker add.

buy something bigger than 3mm that's the size I used and they are just adequate for a light grill, give it a light bump and it falls off. that size only works if it is magnet to magnet. any cloth in between and they won't hold at all. I think 10mm would probably be advisable.
If you want them exposed you can get some nice gold plated ones. Tony. |

K & J Magnetics
K&J Magnetics - Strong Neodymium Magnets, Rare Earth Magnets "D72" disc, 7/16" X 1/8" is what I use. Chosen to fit a 1/2" forstner bit hole. My mount is a combination of mechanical and magnetic. The grill frame has a "ledge" to rest upon at the bottom. Be careful to get the polarities aligned...

Do you mean grills? Magnets are not suitable for attaching a baffle.
We get the magnets for our grills from Lee Valley. And what Tony says... some of our heavier grills need more than 4 magnets, early attempts have grills that will fall off if you look at them wrong. I fear someday the grills themselves will damage the speaker. dave

Any magnets strong enuff to hold a baffle on and keep it sealed will have to have special provisons (and tools) to be able to remove it. Some sort of electromagnet or a lever system that won't damage the enclosure.

Your baffles have to come out often enough to use a system like that???
HArdware stores and home centers like Home Depot ought to have magnetic cabinet latches, like they use on cabinet doors in your kitchen. |
