ya know how a slip of the ol' screwdriver can lead to holes in the surround yes? Well, instead of lamenting over it...GO GET SOME LIQUID ELECTRICAL TAPE!!! That stuff work greats. And from what I can tell...it has no negative effect on performance. It is very thin even if you goo it on think. just make sure to get black. I have a green glob of it on my black rubber surround...also, you can use it to hold down the outer most part of the surround if it starts separating from the basket.
