Hi everyone,
im putting together an F2 clone and have a question about using the toroidal transformer's mounting bolt. The capacitor bank of my PSU is mounted to a metal sheet with clamps. this sheet has a hole in the centre. can i use the top part of the transformer's mounting bolt to hold this sheet in place? i will add an additional nut to the bolt to give some extra clearance between the top of the transformer and the bottom of the sheet. i am using a 1/2 in. bolt that is 5 in. long. one problem i can think of is that there is a greater chance of causing a shorted turn. Assuming that there is enough clearance around the sheet to avoid this, is there any other reason not to do it? cheers, mymindinside |

I followed up with deep searching and have abandoned this idea.
i will hold the plate down with bolts on the four corners. this builder did something very similar, and people have advised him not to do it. cheers, mymindinside |

You can securely stick a lot of components with contact adhesive, even transformers. I know it sounds nutty but it works fine. You just need the right glue and give it a couple of days to dry. Its a very handy technique for capacitor banks, as long as you aren't going to want to swap caps.
