Default Power soft start

Hi Cristi,
Just received the Power Soft Start module, Do I need to connect anything to J2 if I am not using any remote power on function ? Can I just connect the main power to J1 Pin 3&4 and Pin 1& 2 connects to my power amp's transformer's AC IN?

Thanks

To activate the power softstart module, the pin 2 and 3 of the small 3pin green connector must be connected together. the pin 2 is the remote input and pin 3 is the positive supply pin. please refer to manual, http://www.connexelectronic.com/docu..._SoftStart.pdf page 2 bottom, with the mention that in the manual, pin 1 and 3 notations are swap, but the physical position remains the same.
the power should be applied on the Mains terminals of the big 4 pin connector and the load should be connected where is written Load, at the same connector.

Hi,
I looked at the manual, the J2 (small 3pin green connector) has the following notions:

Pin 1 - +10 - 16V DC
Pin 2 - On/OFF
Pin 3 - Ground

So, in regardless of the swapped notion, I just need to connect Pin 2 and Pin 3 together, right?

Thanks

Yes, connect the pin 2 and 3 togeher, then the PSS will connect the relays sequentially as soon as the power is applied. to be more clear, the pin 1 of the small connector is at bottom, and pin 3 at the top when looking at the pcb placed in the same position as the drawing from manual, page 3.

Just got my soft start and installed it in an amp with some older Hypex power modules and and linear power supply with a massive ten pound 650VA toroidal transformer. the soft start works flawlessly. I commend Connexelectronics on a very well made and well conceived unit. It looks to be build to top flight standards. I am running the amp power on/off switch off the soft start low voltage option rather than running the mains through a larger switch, and this is working perfectly. well done.

I am impressed enough that i will soon be buying an amp module from you.

We are using the soft start modules in a new multichannel amp, and can commend them. The one we have on our prototype works flawlessly. Build quality is excellent

Default Speaker hum

I have a soft start which when switched off still has a low voltage, around 20 volts, which is causing the speakers to hum and means I need to shut off the power completely to the amp.

Default Capacitor across Relay

There is a 100nF across relay which has the role to eliminate the noise when the relays are switched on or off due to the large transformer inductance. If the transformer of the amplifier is low-power this capacitor can be eliminated. The capacitor can be found between the relays next to the thermistor. It is normal to show some residual voltage when measuring the output even with the relays open, since the capacitor have a given reactance which will allow a fraction of the mains voltage to be found at the output.
Also, the hum on the speakers could have another cause, since the residual voltage on the output is way too low to build-up a significant voltage on the secondary side of the transformer. Also, the speaker protection circuit (if any) should disconnect the speakers after power off.

Hi Cristi,
What is the difference between your V3 soft start and the V2 soft start of which the schematic depicts on your webpage?

Also, would this soft start be able to handle a 1.5kVA transformer and about 700,000uF capacitance in a class A amp?
