Something like : "It Came From From the Pass Lab... Bwahahahaha" So far he says he has some interesting new stuff to bring, to keep us abreast of his goings-on.. Mark |

Someday we'll fly you in to grill the sausages! But then you wouldn't get to hear the presentations... so might as well stay home.
![]() Still I would treasure a photo of you at the show, grilling! |

Stuff in the works/ done for BA -
"Kingfisher" jfet/tube hybrid P-P with Fisher 300B iron and 7591A outputs - done! "Lil' Devil" hybrid jfet/tube P-P amp with 6JB5/JC5 outputs and Baldwin iron - another one of those bratty 6" cube amps with SMPS - in debug with bench supplies. "No Light District" P-P amp with 6AM4 CC loaded input, mosfet splitter, and 6CW5 outputs, with solid state shunt cathode bias and "Blumlein Garter" compensation, and an SMPS. I just breadboarded the bias circuit tonight, and will be lighting it up soon with some EI 6CW5s. Preamp with JFET RIAA, mosfet-based electronic crossover, and "Linac" jfet line amp. Parts Express "Tri-Trix" transmission line speaker bi-amped with a couple of my amps. I may bring my "Half Nelson" amp with a real power supply and upgraded gain circuit for a face-off with anyone who actually builds and brings a "De-Lite" amp as shown by Nelson last year. Is this a challenge? - yes, it is. I'll also haul in a California Audio Labs CD player (nice sounding as-is), since sources were abysmally lacking last year. Those who live close to SF might consider bringing a TT. |

A couple of the modules for my new preamp - the one with the big heatsink is the crossover, and the other is my RIAA amp. Next up is deciding whether to use pots or some 23-step russian switches w/metal film resistors for my volume controls.

And here, I thought I was the only one who used SMA connectors for audio.
Perhaps next year you can coordinate Burning Amp with the Burning Man Festival: Last edited by jackinnj; 9th September 2010 at 01:47 PM. |

I wanted to be able to swap preamp/filter modules around without a lot of roaring and screaming. The SMA connector is a nice compromise between size, durability, and ease of use. You probably made much the same tradeoff. It's still RCAs for the main ins and outs, though. I'll probably bring the preamp to BA using Noble pots vs. stepped attenuators for the main and crossover filter level controls due to the time pressure. It's time to place the modules in the case and start drilling a sh**load of holes, at least for the back panel connectors.

Mark: Are you planning on a slightly more "formalized" means of getting everybody's gear auditioned? At last year's (and the year before), there were some projects that never made it to the main system, and once the raffle/giveaway started, the auditioning sort of dissolved....... Perhaps a staging area for amps/speakers with some thought of what works best with what (ie. SETs+fullrangers, etc) with times and room assignments, etc. Or maybe a quick overview of the design then 3 songs per setup, etc etc. With multiple rooms maybe a flea power room, a SS/multi-way room, etc. with rotating (or dedicated if you have enough) sources. Just throwing out ideas......... |

SY then came up with this: The Burning Amp - Diy Festival which is lifted directly from the Burning Man site, but with the word "Amp" substituted for "Man" Pretty funny, and so far no man has shown up wearing a skirt, but this year the show is the day before Halloween so the chances are about 100% I'd say.. mark |
