Would also be curious what your 4way horn design sounds like Lowpoke.

It sounds very good to me. Clean and dynamic with exceptional detail. All horns driven with tube amplification except bass reflex subs which use a solid state amp. You're welcome to come and listen.

March AES meeting, Adelaide

Plans for March did not eventuate, so we are going to view a video presentation by Francis Rumsey, a very knowledgeable guy from the upper echelons of the AES.

Spatial Audio-Reconstructing reality or creating an illusion?

You may have wondered if there are some advances in spatial audio that we ordinary people do not get to hear examples of. It turns out that two channel stereo has not been significantly eclipsed by more "advanced" systems, as it sidesteps a number of artefacts inherent to them.

July AES meeting, Adelaide

Hi all
Andrew Bayfield and Neville Clark are going to present-

The Sound Of Rooms-through headphones

Andrew has a particular interest in listening rooms for mastering operations: where we don't want the room colouring the recorded sounds. Over quite a long time he has made recordings of loudspeakers playing in a number of mastering suits and domestic rooms. These recordings are multi generational, as in a recording of a recording of a recording etc.

Andrew was planning to record my Linkwitz LX529 speakers but did not get around to it. A pity, because they are currently sounding most impressive following a conversion to the 0.4 variant by analog means rather than the mini DSP. My contribution is to apply rear wave absorption to the upper baffle considerably reducing room reflections. For dipole speakers absorption certainly beats diffusion of the rear radiation; although neither are too elegant in the room.

September AES meeting, Adelaide

The subject is Headphones - free field and diffuse field target responses derived from acoustic theory. Our Chairman heard a presentation by our presenter at a recent AES Convention in Berlin.

Christopher Struck is very well qualified to speak on the subject of headphone testing as he is the Standards Director of the Acoustical Society of America, has his own acoustics and audio consulting firm in San Francisco as well as spending some time at B&K in Denmark.
