Anybody headed to RMAF?

RMAF 2009

I am going to ask again, because I am pretty sure that my first attempt is lost. Is anyone, besides Bob Cordell, going to the Rocky Mountain AudioFest? If so, I would be interested in meeting you there, just so we can 'size each other up' so to speak. No obligations, no sales talk, just a fellow audiophile. I am told that many audiophiles attend this event, but I have never done so, myself. I will be located on the 5th floor, somewhere, I am told, and I will be babysitting a new power amp. Somewhere else in the building a new Parasound phono pre-amp, designed by Scott Wurcer (he only designed the input IC, but that is worth mentioning) and me, and this will be its first public showing, to my knowledge. I hope that both demos sound good, of course, but I can't promise, as I have no input as to the demos themselves. See you there, if there are any of you going.

Hi, Andy C. I actually don't know what room I will be in, but it will probably not be the Behold room. The importer for Behold is also sponsoring our new amp, but I don't know what it will be called. The importer has, at least 5 separate rooms, at the show, I will just be in only one with a solid state server design, that he also sponsors. 5th floor is all I know, at the moment. See you there.

Hi John,

I'll be there on Saturday. Will you be in the Behold room, Parasound or both?

And an OT question: have you heard the DVD-A versions of Workingman's Dead and/or American Beauty?

Hi Andy,

I'll look forward to seeing you and John and any other folks who will be going to RMAF. I fly out early tomorrow morning and expect to be at the show by early afternoon.

I have a sync-up suggestion. If anyone wants to get together just to exchange info and see who is there, perhaps we can meet at the RMAF Registration desk at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.

Cheers,
Bob

Same here!

Well, I have a ticket for one day only, so that's why I figured on being there Saturday. If you're bringing a laptop, maybe you could shoot me an email or something.

Also, I think Jan Didden mentioned he'd be there, so that would be fun meeting him too.

Hi Andy,

I'll have a laptop too. If all else fails, I'll hang around the RMAF registration area at 4:00 Saturday as well.

Best,
Bob

Jan asked about the show over in the Blowtorch thread, so I'll give a small update.

I live about an hour drive from the show, but I'm not a big fan of it. I did show up on Saturday, and this was mostly because I heard that Bob and John would be there, and I thought Jan mentioned he would be there as well.

To be honest, I get pretty claustrophobic in those small hotel rooms with lots of people crammed into them, so I tend to just visit the large rooms. My favorite of these was the Legacy Audio room, where they were playing the big monster speakers. You can see pics of these in the Stereophile blog here.

Bob apparently spent the whole weekend there. He tends to visit as many rooms as possible, since he isn't bothered by the close quarters in the rooms as I am. He didn't get back home until 1AM this morning, so I don't expect to hear from him until he's rested up.

By far the best aspect of the show for me was at 4PM on Saturday, I met up with Bob and we walked over to the bar for a beer. John was sitting there, so we all sat down and quaffed a couple of brews and talked audio. It's not every day I get to sit at the bar with Bob Cordell and John Curl! It was a hoot.

To really enjoy the show though, you must be a lot less cynical than I am about the high-end audio industry (I'm tempted to put those in scare quotes). When buying tickets online, one can specify a company name to put on one's badge. Mine said "Snake Oil Specialists, Inc.". I got a few comments about that from people on the elevator who looked at my badge :).
