Zetex Class Z

Does anybody have datasheets or further information about the Zetex Class Z chips ?

I`ve sent an inquiry to Zetex. Part of their answer was:
"Data sheets for the Class Z devices will not be generally released, they will only be supplied as support materials to potential production projects and not all projects will be supported.

Supply of this information is subject to an understanding of your commercial and technical production project details."

I would really appreciate it if someone could send me the datasheets of the modulator ZXCZM800 and the feedback processor ZXCZA200.

Zetex is the first manufacturer that managed to close the feedback loop around a digital PWM-modulator.

Sounds like they are licensing their IP, like Dolby or DTS. Anyone that has these has probably signed a non-disclosure agreement.

That's the right attitude to make oneself the next Tripath (from the commercial point of view).

This is real life I'm afraid -- any company has to consider whether to support "DIY-type" enquiries, and the answer is usually no, unless someone in the firm wants to do it in their spare time out of the goodness of their heart.

For circuits like class-D amps a lot of support is likely to be needed, and there has to be enough potential business to justify expending this time and effort. This applies equally to business enquiries -- I design mixed-signal ICs for Fujitsu, and we often turn business away because it's just not big enough, though custom IC designs are vastly more expensive than anything else audio (typically $200k-$2M nowadays). But we did take on the Zetex ZXCZM800 :-)

The only way to support low-volume and DIY business is through distribution, which usually happens (if it happens at all) after the newest chips have already gone out to big customers. So if the Zetex chips ever make it out to the likes of Farnell or RS you'll be able to get them then, but many chip suppliers never go down this route.
