The UCD400 is rated for (min)45vdc to (max)63vdc as per the Hypex Datasheet.
I am currently running my 400's off the Exodus UCD400 1KVA toroid (2x40vac secondaries) w/ a Hypex SupplyHG which puts out a nominal 57vdc at 46vac input (mine get 40vac). Question 1 - Given a typical power supply would that extra 6vac make a difference in gain? Question 2 - Should I expect any performance changes if I replace the toroid and the supply HG with a coldamp SPS80 at 60vdc? These may be dopey questions but I'd appreciate an opinion or two before I let all the magic blue smoke out of my UCD's Thanks, Tom |

My 2 cents...
From my experience, supported by some posts here, you will find a very noticeable improvement by changing your linear PSU to a coldamp switching one, specially a deeper bass. I started with their BP4078 modules and a linear PSU and found a big difference when I updated the system to coldamp SPS80. I think it is due to the faster response and regulated output, that makes voltage very estable even with very current demanding bass notes. Hope this helps. |
