I have a set of 4 Ohm Polk Audio shelf speakers that I want to turn into powered monitors for my recording at my dell desktop.
I have looked around and found the Sonic Impact 5066 portable amp but im not sure if i really want to get it. From what I can see, its a great little product but needs mods to get it running well and the power supply is pricy at $20... I need to have inputs in RCA, Phone (both 1/4 and 1/8") and binding posts. I like to leave my computer speakers on day and night so running on batteries is no good... So im looking for something that: - will run two 4 ohm speakers - at least 15W of power - 120V input - lots of inputs. Any ideas on what I should get for this project? Thanks Here are some photos of the mixer board and speakers on my desktop: ![]()

How are your soldering skills? One of the kits form www.41hz.com cold do nicely.
If you're up to building the amp, that would be a good direction.

Second thoughts...
I'm not really into all those serface mounts... I'm mainly looking for am amp that I can buy that will work well and needs little to no mods to run good. I'm really starting to lead towards just getting that sonic 5066 and I'll probably do a few mods keeping the original case. My plans are to swap out the original pot for another better quality one and add a switch for power in place of the pot/switch combo. I'll also put quality binding posts on that back Oh yea and ill have it run on 120V with a wall wort power pack...12.5V input max for this setup from what ive heard Going along with this I found this site http://members.tripod.com/talkgarden...mpact_5066.htm It's a great page to follow but some of the links to the parts are bad... ------- I need to know what I should use to replace the current POT in there and what power supply I should get..and where |
