While waiting for my AMP6 to arrive, I've just read that a simplied version of the AMP6 kit will soon be available:

The most noticeable difference (at least for me) betwen
these two kits is that the new basic kits come with prewound
inductors instead of requiring the builder to wind
toroidal inductors.
A total newbie question:
Any guesses on the merits of the new inductors vs
the old?

That will certainly makes it easier to build.
The amp6 basic kit lacks the LED status displays. More
importantly, it does not have an onboard regulated
power supply. This should make it a bit easier to experiemnt
with the power supply.
Too bad I hadn't heard about the amp6 basic when I ordered
my two amp6 kits.

You could just jumper the inboard power supply of AMP6,if you want to experiment with different power supplys.Then you are left with few extra bits like rectifier bridge,nice regulator chip,big 10.000uf cap etc.You can also leave out the LED:s if you want.
THE Basic model has smaller PCB which is good improvement,if all those "extra" bits in AMP6 are not needed.
I have AMP6 with the 10.000uf cap (inboard power supply jumpered).
I was almost going to say that people are loosing the enjoyment of DIY even on the DIY foorum.But thinking of it better,I didn't want to make my own PCB in the first place anyway so I bought a kit...
