Default SI Distortion Problem

I made the mistake '' of inverting the input voltage to my modified SI (input caps and increased tank capacitance). The unit still plays, but with distortion if the volume is turned up. ''

If the DC current from the baterries exceeds 0.12 amps I hear distortion. The sound will drop in and out (clips) if the volume is turned up too loud.

I suspect the problem may be diodes or the chip itself, but I really don't know. I have two other units I can mod, but I am just curious as to what may be the problem with this one.

Does anyone have any idea why the amp "clips"?
