Default 45V transformer okay for ZapPulse 2.3SE?

Hi,

I just received a pair of 2.3SE's and an extended Predator PSU but rather than pay for import of the transformer I was hoping to buy one from RS. The LC Audio ones are 42V but the only ones I can find on RS are 45V, will this be alright or will it trip voltage overload since the PSU is already the 'extended' 80V one??

Thanks

I bought a 2x45V 500VA (mono amp) one from Farnell, works lovely for me. Didn't bother with the Predator though so can't comment on suitability for that. Just check it has 80V caps.

45V transformer will yield under 64 volts ignoring diode losses, so will be a touch lower in practice.

Thanks I thought it would be alright but wanted to check. Is there a neat rule of thumb for what a AC voltage will be when rectified to DC?

Yes and I'm surprised you haven't found these kinds of basic facts out before building a very high power amplifier

DC = 1.414 x AC

Its just one of those things that has always bugged me and I couldn't find much on google surprisingly. Besides the LC Audio modules are not complex. If I wear my full latex body suit I'm sure I'll be fine!

With the extended predator you should be able to use toroids up to 55 V AC secondairy. 45V or 50V AC is not a problem.
