Default 41hz - amp3 vs amp6: do they "sound" different?

I asked that already in the 41hz's own forum but I got no reply...
As far as I understand the TA2020 is very similar to the TA2021B, but I still wonder: do they sound different?
Had you the chance to listen at both of them?
Biulding an amp3 surely is challenging but I'm planning to use an external power supply and I don't need the extras of amp6. This drives me towards amp3 but, while I read that the TA2020 is probably the better sounding tripath, I'm not sure about the sound of the TA2021B.

Ciao,
Davide.

Hi,

Just to say I built an AMP3 as my second ever electronics kit, straight after the very easy chipamp.com lm3886 kit.

It is much more fiddley to do but i had it running on the first night.
It is a very cheap and excellent sounding amp, with and addition 10k off board cap and a decent SMPS it stunning.

Regards,

Phil

I'm sure the polyester caps in AMP6 make it a bit better sounding compared to ceramic in amp3.

Short signal path is much more important that flashy components. The "secret" to the sound quality of the chip amp is the short signal path. Bad news for the DIYer, but surface-mount components are the way to go.

"...surface-mount components are the way to go." Except when AMP6 is concerned. And I meant the six caps at the output. Plus the two 0,01uf zoebel caps, which I have changed to wima FKP2.

True, you probably want to have more serious caps in areas like input and output.

But generally speaking, for chips, topography and short signal path are what make them tick. It's easy to try to apply old truths in areas where they don't apply, like high-price digital cables! Virtually everything that's true for tubes and analogue is a lie when it comes to chips and digital. Different ballgame, different rules.
