Default Commercial 1.2-1.5kVA SMPS for AMP2??

Hi everybody, I'm looking for a 1.2-1.5kVA SMPS to power an AMP2 modded for high power according to Jan's guidelines. Any idea where I can find such a beast?

I've looked at coldamp...theirs isn't available yet. I've looked at digiamps.com...there's a possibility there, but I have some questions in to them on pricing. Hypex says they're working on one but don't intend to make it available to DIY community.

I've also looked at another company, whom I won't mention, since, it seems, the products they're selling are unauthorized copies of QSC's SMPS and PL and PLX amplifiers...so no-go there.

What about single-output SMPS's that I can connect in series...anyone had any good luck with that?

Any suggestions out there?

--Greg

PS--Failing that, where can I find affordable 1.5kVA 45-0-45 toroids in USA? (40V is OK, too)

Just in case it helps...

In fact you will find two models of SMPS at www.coldamp.com: a bigger one rated at around 800W-1KW and a smaller one (still not advertised) with around 400W RMS capability and considerably smaller size.

They will be available in about two months at most. Sorry for the delay in launching them; we are receving a lot of interest in this supplies, and we already have several pre-production units running very well, we are just making sure that we have a very robust and tested product before making it available.

Best regards,
Sergio

Thanks for your interest, but for commercial info please contact us directly.

These SMPS models don't have PFC. For this power range it provides little advantage, you probably won't see a PSU for audio with PFC under 1.5KW or so.

Mmmm, bulky, isn't it?
They don't publish the dimensions, but it seems something like 230x200x55mm. And 3 lbs=1.5Kg aprox.
Besides, it is not what I call cheap: 329$ and you still have to assemble and test it!

I recall that Ghemink did quite a good bunch of tests with it. Perhaps he can tell us about his experience with that SMPS.
