Charlize, my thoughts

Hi Nik,
You forgot one important stuff...The speaker biding post... ;)

You can opt for a simple on/off switch for 'soft-start' as what I did for my version of Charlize....

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Thanks vt4c, and thanks for the pictures, it will help me to build my own.. My Charlize will arrive in two days, and I look forward to mess with it :) It's gonna be hooked up with a modded Squeezebox and some 95dB (C17-III) speakers from Troels Gravesen, he makes some really nice designs -if anybody should be interested:

I already got a smps skynet 8080 power supply -do I need anything between the smps and the amp? (sorry this question has probably been in the thread but I am a little confused)

Start with nothing, listen, and then add caps and listen again. When you get to say 4K7 or above, add bypass caps, say 100 nF polypropylene types. There really is no substitution for finding the best arrangement for your ears. ;)

I've changed my project based on Charlize due to all the tips i've found on the web.
My final setup is:

1. Charlize with air core inductors
http://www.diyparadise.com
2. SMPS Skynet 8080 as PSU
http://cgi.ebay.it/SMPS-8080-Power-...ryZ36323QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
3. CAPS: 2x4.700 Uf/63 ELNA with 100pf bypass Caps and 1x6K8 5W as discharge resistor
3. Mundorf Mcap 2.2 uf as input capacitors
http://www.lautsprechershop.de/hifi/cond_mun_en.htm
4. Stepped Attenuator 10K
http://www.diyfidelity.com.au/produ...id=32&osCsid=33c8464b83c6170c9f447f5df044bdd4
5. Case Galaxy from hifi2000
http://www.hifi2000.it/default.asp?id=16&mnu=16
6. A couple of gold plated RCA
7. A couple of gold plated Speakers socks
8. CAT 7 Cable for wiring signal path
9. OFC cable to wire Charlize to speakers socks

hope it helps ;)

Any comment or opinion is well accepted

I just finished my first poo by myself!!:)

I bought my first one from a guy already completed so this was the first amp ive made myself.Have to say it was quite easy :D

I dont have a cap between the PS and charlize with the new one. There was a massive 10000uf cap on the other one. As noted by others a big difference with bass.. Amazing the way one little change of a cap can imapct the sound so much..

Im using the two charlizes biamped with my just arrived ming da mc3 preamp...Im really chuffed with the sound:)
