Zero Voltage Switching for Class D amps
I'm just curious: has anyone ever built a Zero-Voltage-Switching Class D amp? It seems like it should be possible.
the idea behind ZVS is that the voltage across switch(FET, for example) Vds is zero for the duration of the time that it takes for the switch to turn on and off. since this is where most of the power loss occurs, you have a switching amplifier thats practically 100% efficient. I think the downside is increased cost and complexity. you have to use a couple of extra passive components (caps, diodes). Also, the transfer function probably gets all messed up so feedback loops might be harder to incorporate |
