ICE/ class d amps used for PA/musical instruments?
Hello. I am investigating the use of these new micro amp modules for live sound reinforcement. I wonder why this isnt happening allready? I am interested in small PA and keyboard amplifiers / monitors. For these applications, light weight, small size would outweight a sound that may not be in the absolute high-end class.
PWM and switched amps got a bad rep for being unreliable and diffictul to repair in the old days. That would definately be a problem. Does B&O/ICE sell those modules directly yo the end user? Anyone know where to buy them in the scandinavia? with best regards Knut Inge |
ICEpower does not sell products to private individuals. Try LCaudio's ZapPulse modules instead (www.lcaudio.dk)

For professional use, check out http://www.dbaudio.com. I belive their amps are class D. They are widely used in the Broadway sound scene here in NY with great success. They're lightwieght, sound great and have DSP built right in!

Thanks for the replies. Professional rack mountable amplifiers are typically to expensive and to heavy (those mentioned here were 15kg and up)
I`m talking about 2*100W or so to fit in a 30Kg (total) speaker. Anyone willing to compare ICE modules to ZapPulse to D2audio to whatever? BTW, what kind of powersupply do you need for these modules? A big transformer? regards Knut Inge |
Hi Knut Inge!
The ICE modules are used by EMBLA AUDIO http://www.emblaaudio.no These are sold by ELTEK: http://www.mamut.com/dynabel Hypex in Netherland will also soon have Class-D modules for DIY: http://www.hypex.nl BR AndyB |

Yes,
Indeed we will come with a DIY Class-D module. Please take a look on the Photo. This Module will be soon available! Regards, Jan-Peter www.hypex.nl |
Hello, Jan Peter. What Kind of powersupply would one use to save weight? Are there suitable switch-mode powersupplies that together with these modules would form a complete ultralight medium powered amp?
regards Knut Inge |
Hi Knut,
I am sorry but we don't have a SMPS powersupply. For this UcD180 we will recommend a 160VA transformer with 2 or 4 times 10.000uF/50V capacitors. When the UcD180 are available (a few weeks from now) we will also have a powersupply available. Jan-Peter www.hypex.nl |
