Have a look at the DTA-1 from Parts Express , if high power isn't an issue would be ideal for backpacking as can run on 12 v or 8 x AA batteries.
It's a Tripath design and a clone of the Sonic Impact that caused quite a stir a few years ago , sorry couldn't get a working link , about $ 50 from memory.
