What do I need to make the ICEpower amps work?

So I plan on using the ICEpower 50ASX2 and 125ASX2 in my DIY speaker. I'm very new to DIY amplifiers, which is why I'm using the ICEpower amps because there is no doubt on their excellent sound quality compared to all the eBay class D amps, so no poorly designed boards or mods needed, and the power supply is already built into the amp, simplifying a lot of stuff.

Now, my question is, what do I need to get this amp working and where do I buy it? From what I can see, I would need the following

1. AC plug (what kind do I need?) and internal cable to feed it to the amp
2. RCA plugs and internal cables to feed it to the amp
3. Internal speaker wires

However, I do not know which kind of internal cables I need, or even where to buy any of the stuff I mentioned above. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Hi bcodemz,

For the cables and eventually the case you can find then a ghent audio :

ghentaudio --- DIY Cable-Set for ICEpower Modules

http://www.ghentaudio.com/kit/asx125-sr.html

Audiophonics has a good choice of box and connectors, you can also find lots of things on Ebay.

Concerning the ASX2 modules, depending your input source, yoy may need an input buffer because the input impedance is low :

I can send you one or two PCB for few CAD beacuse I've got some left.

If you don't want DIY, minidsp has a plate amp includind a 125 ASX2 module and an input buffer :

PS : lots of useful information are available on diyaudio using the search engine and the key word 125ASX2 or Icepower ;)

Thank you Pascal!

I did try to search, but the results were mostly technical discussions out of my grasp. I did not find basic information such as wiring.

Would I still need an input buffer if I won't be using a volume pot on the amp and will be using a openDRC DA8 as the preamp? What happens if the input impedance is too low?

Where did you find the designer's manual? There is some very good information on it. I only found the data sheet.

I can't answer, you can ask miniDSP if the ouput stage of the DA8 is able to drive an impedance around under 6k Ohms at 20 kHz.

What happens if the input impedance is too low?
Short answer : sound won't be good and no dynamics, in particular in the highs section. I use a Najda DSP and I must use an input buffer.
IMHO any ASX2 amp design should include input buffer.

The rule is to have minimal 10x the ouput impedance at input, miniDSP says on their forum that the output impedance is 560ohms on the DSP 4x10.
