50ASX2 and Grounding?
I picked up a B&O 50ASX2. It came on pre-mounted to four metal stand-offs. The seller mounted it. I did a quick wire up temporary to make sure it worked. It would work for a moment, then cut out then work for a moment then cut out. Doh, I thought, I bought a bum module off of ebay.
I double checked all of my connections - everything was good (so I thought). Then I looked at the protection, first the short. It wasn't shorting readings were got on my multimeter. Then I looked at thermal - and there it was, it kept going in and out. Damn it, why?
It's currently mounted to a metal metal hard drive carriage, which is sitting in a grounded computer case. I thought, what if its shorting to the earth/ground through the case? I raised on a piece of plastic, and bam. It's working. Sounds amazing - much better than me Lepai 2020a+ powering a pair of behringer 2030Ps.
So it's working, but I'm not sure. Is this right? Is it a problem for the standoffs to be grounded to earth? Should they be isolated from earth ground? Should they (the metal standoffs) all be isolated from each other? The designer's manual and datasheet don't seem to indicate one way or the other. Any thoughts on this matter would be much appreciated.
