Hello all!

About a month ago I started this project in converting a Vietnam era PRC-25 to a modern day boombox with a retro flare. The PRC-25 I received had been gutted and was used as a movie prop so no real radios were harmed in the creation process. I have everything together and it's pretty dang loud and sounds great. However, the potentiometer I have between the Ipod and the amp is not lowering the volume all the way down. It is lowering it by maybe 25%. My question, is the resistance on the pot not great enough? I have an understanding of electricity but how that exactly relates to sound is where I get lost.

Here's a pic of the project as a whole layout.

For testing purposes I am using my Ipod Nano 5th gen. The final project will have the Ipod Shuffle 4th gen. inserted into the radio phone.

Ipod specs

I belly sliced the radio phone cord on the inside then ran the audio cable through it to the top of the radio assembly.

Audio Cable Specs
Belkin Pure AV - Y Audio cable (12 FEET) - Newegg.com

The audio cable runs through the top and to the dual gang pot. I split the audio cable and soldered the inner wire to the input and did the same on the output. I soldered the wire shielding around the inner wire together. In other words the inner wire is the only part of the cable that is going through the pot. I have a set of green wires going to the chassis to provide ground for the pot.

Pot Specs
BOURNS 10KAx2 Stereo Volume Control (Model:82A2AB20S15S15)

The output of the audio cables goes to my portable amp. I don't have much to say about this unit, it was just a drop in piece.

I have 2 4" full range drivers making the sound happen

The powerhouse is an enormous LiPo battery putting out 22.2V at 8 amps with a variable 25-50C discharge.

Battery Specs
Turnigy nano-tech 8000mAh 6S 25~50C Lipo Pack (USA Warehouse)

I hope that this community can help me. The pot is not a must have but it would be so cool to have the volume knob on the radio face plate actually operate the volume. I'm still a noob so try and keep it to layman terms.

Thank you much!
