Silly question

I have no real need to swap out power cords, so the IEC socket is just an unnecessary point of failure. Is there any safety risk to placing the power switch between the power supply and amp board? The ps would be always on, but that doesn't seem any different than a typical amp going into standby mode and still drawing current.

In 30+ years in various parts of the electronics industry I have never seen an IEC power socket fail..

Generally a better idea I think to place the power switch on the input side of the supply, that way when you turn it off it is really off. Zero power consumption and in theory at least much longer component lifetimes.
