Headphone out circuit for TA2024C?

I've heard that it's not possible to drive a standard pair of headphones with this chip because the outputs don't share a common ground. If the outputs are bridged it will damage the amp. I was wondering if I could create a virtual common ground by using a pair of resistors in series between the negative output terminals? Is there any reason this would not work?
