DIY PA amp?

This is mostly just for fun, but have any of you guys seen a diy pa amp, and im talking the serious type, 2000 wpc @ 4ohm or there about?

I meen, you can easely get the smps's to make a f*** wilde amp, the 3.6kw smps from conex is only 230usd, two of thoes and two class D moduels whit the power needed... Does it even exist?

It cloud be a nice thing to tell the guest at a party, that you made the amps your self

That's expensive fun.

For half (at least in the U.S.) of what the hypex-based amp would cost to build you can get a Peavey IPR or Behringer iNuke class D amp, fully assembled and with a warranty.

I know that its not to save money.. here en europ you can get redeculous amonts of power from thomann.de...

It's only as a prof of concept that you can do it if you want to..

And btw.. the inuke is kinde of a joke.. the ratet power i only for a feew ms.. If i was to build my own PA amp, i would have to be stable at very high outputs..

The Peavey's aren't.

I have an IPR 3000, and I measured full rated power at 4 ohms at 10 Hz, for about 1 sec, as I didn't want to fry my subwoofer's voice coil.

noah since when does DIY audio have anything to do with common sense

Elaborating on my previous post, an excerpt from a post I made at AVSforum:

"I got a 3000 about a month ago to replace a CS4080HZ (1250 W/ch @8 ohms, 2000 W/ch @ 4 ohms), because the latter doesn't have enough input sensitivity to be driven to full output by a MniDSP, and because it would sometimes blow the breaker on turn-on.

I haven't noticed any difference in SQ, which I'm very happy about considering it's a 7 lb amp vs. the CS4080's 50+ lb.

Using a signal generator directly driving the 3000, I measured 63.3 V output at 10 Hz when the DDT light gets activated, driving my dual MaelX18 sealed sub.

According to WinISD it's about 2.6 ohms for the paralleled pair at 10 Hz, which calculates to 1540 W.

Driving both of my subs, the second being a DTS-10 (nominally 4 ohms), gave about the same reading, as did higher freq.

I say "about" because accuracy suffered in my haste to make the measurement quickly so as not to roast the VC's."

Just my kinde of thinking !

In dont know the IPR3000.. I have only seen the berry and that was not realy impressive..
