Dayton T amp Questions

I am looking to upgrade to some bookshelf or floorstanding speakers in my bedroom with a sub. I am strongly considering pairing this setup with the Dayton Audio DTA-100a as I have no room to place a receiver. Will sound quality be hindered using this setup vs a receiver when connecting to my tv? Also, would this setup be able to handle some floorstanding speakers? For example, I am considering the Infinity P363s

I am looking to fill a 14'x14' bedroom. Likewise, looking at the P163s

would this amp be sufficient to provide enough power to fill the room? I usually do not listen to extraordinary volume levels.

Lastly, I am wondering about crossover. I see the Dayton Audio APA150 has a low pass crossover. How important is this when pairing with a sub as the t amp does not possess this feature and is there a way to obtain it?

Finally, any other recommendations for small amplifiers that would fit the bill? Thanks.

Hi,

I would not buy the Dayton. It has problems with uneven power to the left and right channels, due to a VERY cheap volume pot. It would power your speakers but you could do much better with buying an Hifimediy T1 or T2 TK2050 AMP. The sound is much better than the Dayton and the price will be close if you buy a cheap case.

100% agreed! A friend had (notice had) the Dayton amp and it was just awful. I have been eyeballing the Hifimediy stuff too.....saving my pennies (they're hard to come by these days) and I think I'll cut my building teeth on one of their products soon.

Well I appreciate the replies. I have been leaning toward a Lepai TA2020 since posting this thread due to the hefty price I was trying to avoid. Your posts confirm that for me luckily.

How hard is it to assemble one these? Are there any guides, videos especially?

Or are there any that come assembled? Or is that a big price you pay for not doing it yourself? I have not really dealt with anything like this, so I am unsure if I would be able to even do it.

A hifimediy tk2050 is easy to assemble - nothing to it really.

Having said that, you will need to be able to find a secure housing for it - in particular the power supply, since it comes "naked" and thus your mains wiring is exposed and you won't be wanting it to live up something (like your heart, for instance). You'll also need wires, plugs, etc.

I have one and can vouch that a HifimeDIY is a great amp for a very sensible price. I use it to drive 2 Tony Gee LBS floorstanders and its never missed a beat.

there are no guides at all included. but you can search for my post in the power supplies about how to wire one - since I'd never done something like it before either and wasnt ready to die yet.
