Hi all,
I'm in the process of constructing 2 cabinets for my first DIY speaker build, and looking to eventually add 2 rear speakers, a center and a subwoofer. While only 2 speakers exist, I'll be powering them through HifimeDIY's 2x100W T2 amp and Meanwell 27V SMPS - so thats pretty straightforward. But later on, when I add the extra speakers, what are the gotcha's for powering them? Is the amplification generally done by getting 2 more 2 channel T2 boards (or the Sure equivalent...)? Could I use the same Meanwell to power the rear and centre speakers? I understand that sometimes it causes "whining" - is this in some cases or in all cases? Would I be better off using alternatives other than the HifimeDIY amps? Even (shudder)... an AV receiver? The subwoofer will probably draw far more power than the other speakers, so would I be better off powering this through a plate amp in the speaker and not trying to use a channel from one of the T2? I'd be interested in hearing what solutions are in use out there in the real world Thanks guys Last edited by Billyo; 15th June 2011 at 11:28 AM. |

At www.coldamp.com we can offer multichannel amplification solutions based on the Sonora Combo 2S300 modules (comprising 2 up-to-300W/4ohm channels + SMPS in each module).
Each Combo can power two channels and, if power demand is not at limit, can be used to provide supply to an additional channel. For instance, for a 5.1 setup, you can use three combos + 1 Sonora S250: one combo for stereo front, another for rears powering the S250 for the center channel, and another combo in bridge mode for the subwoofer. If your subwoofer is already active, you only need two Combos. This solution is quite convenient and takes advantage of the full capabilities of these amplifiers. All is synchronized so no chances of noises. You won't need any additional component. If you need additional information about this solution, don't hesitate to contact us at info@coldamp.com |
