So did the better amp sound less muddy, did one amp have a "sharper" tone to it, for want of a better word? What words would you use to describe the difference?

I believe all, in the basses, lie on damping differences. As well as harmonic distortions stays low level enough.

Yes - the better amp sounded less muddy, that's a good way to describe it! There was also better "punch" in bass drum, even though the upper harmonics was absent.

No. I had UcD 400's with SMPS400A400 and changed to NC400 with the SMPS600. But in a way you can say it the same PSU, since both are SMPS and designed by Hypex.

I mean, you can transform any amp with the filtering caps etc... On my amp (2X 140W class AB), i tried a lot of transformers on my PSU. 1000VA was the point where no more improvements by increasing-it. I would double the PSU power vs any amp power consumption. |

Well, I never go beyond 20W output, so in theory a 40W supply should suffice ....

Peak output.
That only happens when I do demos and want to produce pants flapping low bass with Yello or similar music. With "normal" music however, I never see power levels above 1W peak.

Guys,
I'm still considering nCore amps for my main system (especially after a second SMPS400 has failed on me, I only have one left...) For a price comparison, does anyone have a list of commercial solutions using nCore technology? Thanks |
