I've had a really good experience with a LiFePo type. Better energy density than a SLA for the size and weight, good output voltage and very rapid charging (less than half an hour with the charger I have). Also, that type has a bit lower energy density when new, but over its lifetime that is supposed to remain fairly constant. Other lithium cells output less voltage over time, and have much shorter lives. That is why they are being adopted for electric bikes and other uses.
Here's the one I have:
LiFePO4 Belt Bag Bike Battery: 12.8V 6.6Ah (84Wh, 14A rate) + Fast Smart Charger
--Buckapound

It won't output as much power. The difference is only about 10%, so not really audible. However if you compare to a "12V" LiFePO4 battery which average 12.8V the difference is a audible 25%.
Cheers. Now to source some cheap and easy to use 12.8v lipos all packaged up in one unit, with charger.
Hang on, all the lipos I can see are 11.1 or 14.8v. Will tripath TA2020 amps take the 14.8v ones?
ah, I see the ones you mean now, 12.8v: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FireFox-1...S_Batteries&hash=item19becb39ff#ht_1948wt_902

I have a 12v 9Ah SLA battery and was wondering if THIS charger would be ok to charge it?
yup, but it will take ages to fully charge. Bargain price imo, compared to the others I've seen.
So which one did you end up getting the Li-ion 9800MAH (New 12V Portable 9800mAh Li-ion Super Rechargeable Battery Pack | eBay) or the SLA 7AH?
I'm also building a boombox using the TA2020+ Amp. What sort of battery life am I looking at with either one?

Yeah, that battery is only 11.1V 6200mAh.
