Default cheap and cheerful class D with near zero idle power waste?

For a variety of unfortunate reasons my SO favours 'AV unit' furniture "designed" by furniture designers rather than engineers. So there's not much by way of ventilation. Assuming Audiolab ever get around to shipping 8200AP, are there any class-D amps that have really tiny idle power draws?

I'm planning a phantom center, 4 channels, only modest volumes (through Anthony Gallo spheres, FWIW) with a further subwoofer (BKElec or similar).

I'd just order up some cheap T-amps but there seem to be offset issues in some and they idle warm?

My ta2020 board that I got from Arjen Helder has trimpots to adjust the dc offset, so mine is sitting at a fraction of a millivolt. I haven't checked temperature, but given the overall efficiency of the ta2020 chips, you only have to deal with a couple watts of heat output at worst.

To test mine after I built it I did actually connect it to my Anthony Gallo A'Diva Ti speakers but I didn't crank it up. I would say that it has plenty of power for moderate volume, but in a large room with those speakers I don't think it will rock the building. It did seem to sound pretty good when it was connected though.

you could always log on to Wholesale - Buy Products Online from China Wholesalers at Aliexpress.com and search for "Class-D". The good thing is, class D power chip manufacturers have a lot of IP tied up - so there aren't really any "low quality" devices out there.

The Texas Instruments PurePath and the Phillips/NXP devices are particularly nice. If you feel the boards on offer from our friends in China are "too cheap" - I would suggest replacing all the power supply and de-coupling capacitors with good quality low-ESR ones. You would end up with a very hi-fidelity amp.

Just my 2c.

We have 750W modules with 5W idle (ON, but no signal) consumption. When the on/off signal is asserted, the consumption reduces to around 2.5-3W. But I suppose that's too much power for your application. The 250W units (Sonora S250) also have a 5W typical power consumption, too. And the Sonora Combo 2S300 has around 11W consumption (including PSU and 2 300W channels). They definitely don't need forced ventilation if at least some slits are present in the case.
If you think any of these products may fit your needs, ask us at www.coldamp.com

I have played with a few amp modules using the TDA8920 chip.
Some used 5W idle, some (essentially) 0. I had them all connected using toroidal transformers.
The very low power use when idle one was the ConnexEletronics module. The JuanJing (much cheaper module available on ebay) used 5w idle.

This is measuring them using an AC appliance power use meter like the following:
MS6115 Mains Power Meter Review
not a high precision device but good for getting a quick measure for appliances.
