Dead Sonic Impact T-Amp

I bought one of those original T-Amps when they became popular, and it was good, apart from having to put pressure on the power cable to get it to run. A few days ago it died. No sound at all--not even the muffled whoomp you'd usually hear when turning on the speakers regardless of input. The LED still lights up, so I don't think it's the power connector. I've opened it up but couldn't find anything strange. There were a pair of screws lying loose inside the case (don't ask) which might have fallen on something and shorted it, I suppose.

Is there anything I can look at/try fixing? I have a soldering iron (minimal experience) and a multimeter.

Otherwise I guess I'll get this Dayton DTA-1 which looks like a black copy of it (though slightly more expensive, grr).

Or buy just TA-2024 board and replace original with it.
Good quality TA-2024 board costs 12.50 USD.

Right now the Dayton DTA-1 is on sale! However if you don't need the battery power option provided by the DTA-1, you might consider instead the LEPAI TA2020 at an even lower price. I've both of them and prefer the LEPAI.

Apparently the LEPAI is still evolving, but the most recent version has a tone defeat button. I've what I would call an intermediate version. Mine has a relay in it lacking in earlier models and a different circuit board. The most current has the tone defeat and according to some, yet another circuit board.
